Ivey Hayes Art

"My signature painting reflects life's experiences.  This shows who I really am... my heart and soul."
Thanksgiving and hard work are at the core of Ivey's artistic philosophy.  He has developed a unique style, working with bright colors to express feeling and emotion in each unique piece.

"I become what I paint.  If I'm painting a ballerina - suddenly I'm whirling around with them."

Known for his paintings of North Carolina scenes, Ivey Hayes was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina.  His watercolors depict realistic scenes from the area where he grew up; more recently he has become known for the bold colors of his acrylics, which portray rural and dockside scenes as well as more abstract paintings of people in motion.

"The painting soaks me up.  I can feel the energy that comes through the lady as she rolls her hip out and the man who hums the tune."

Mr. Hayes received a BA from North Carolina Central University.  He performed graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then achieved a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1975 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

"I work at art until it speaks to me, gives me joy and makes me love the work."

Ivey has continued painting, always drawing upon his own personal experiences.  He compares his art to a journey...

"My bags are packed and I'm ready to open the next door with every painting."
