Known for his paintings of North Carolina scenes, Ivey Hayes was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. His watercolors depict realistic scenes from the area where he grew up; more recently he has become known for the bold colors of his acrylics, which portray rural and dockside scenes as well as more abstract paintings of people in motion.

Mr. Hayes received a BA from North Carolina Central University. He performed graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then achieved a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1975 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
